Amberwing’s Gallery

June 1, 2005

I have always admired people gifted with the ability to create art from their hands. My sister Tina is one such person. She can draw, paint, sew and she even writes stories.

Among her many works, one of my favorites is her sketch called “Impossible Romance”. Somehow I get the impression of a guy with wings who might be wearing blue jeans hugging the mermaid. I love the way the wings and the tips of the mermaid’s tail looks, as if she had hurriedly rushed out of the water and he’d been waiting to take her in his arms. I swear the computer screen does not do the real sketch justice.

Early Morning Shower

It’s barely June and already we know that summer is over. How do we know that? The rains have begun!

I woke up to a gray, sullen looking day. I could hear the rumbling of thunder as I took my shower. Boy, was I praying to get to work before it fell!

Enter every females daily problem: so, what to wear today? Having settled on clothes, the next question becomes shoes. Here, the thought is, aside from what looks good, what if it rains? So, I settled on my gorgeous heels, but wear my sneakers first for comfortable walking.

Thank God I opted from my sneakers. As I exited the lobby of my building, the skies opened and the rain came slashing down…sideways! So, there I was having a second bath from the knees down.

I got to the office with my pants dripping and my shoes squishing and I can’t help but think…thank God for the impracticality of heels, they made me bring spare shoes :D

Via Astris

May 31, 2005

Star Trek is something I’ve enjoyed since I was a child. I always agreed with the thought that we are not alone in the universe, after all there are millions of stars, how can this be the only one inhabited?

I was excited when my sister intoduced me to Via Astris, the Philippine Star Trek Club. Here’s a truly diverse group who enjoy learning ang having great discussions. We also enjoy watching our favorite characters and discussing the show and it’s actors and screenplay.

Though we are not capable of space travel yet, this has not stopped the club from having adventures, following the Star Trek tag line of “To Boldly Go” we have activities such as shore leave (out of town vacations), away missions (explorations such as new restaurants) and of course diplomatic missions (conventions) aside from the regular duty shifts (weekly meetings at Brash Young Cinema).

Summer is especially fun because of the option to go have fune in the sun. Shore leave allows us to rendezvous with other sections such as the one between the Kalayaan and Makiling crew when we went to Laguna.

All day and night swimming and a brabecue dinner followed by a picnic breakfast the next day. We took time to explore UP Los Banos and ate under the fertility tree.

Wherever the crew goes, we always have fun. I have to admit that it’s a special joy to be able to wear our uniforms and walk around and meet some aliens such as these from the delta quadrant during the recently concluded NWA Episode III

For all the Trekkies, Trekkers and Trek fans out there, we hope you can join us one of these days. Drop by and join us on Wednesdays at Brash Young Cinema, Basement S&L Building, Esteban cor Dela Rosa, Legaspi Village, Makati. Feel free to browse our site as well: http://www.via-astris.ph

Back in the Swing

May 30, 2005

After almost a year, I’m now back to work. It feels a little odd, truth be told. I had gotten used to being a full time home maker. My days were filled with thoughts of what to cook for breakfast, merienda, lunch, merienda, dinner…now what’s for tomorrow’s breakfast?

Seriously, there was more to it than just food. There was the also the joy of being able to spend time with my family, enjoying the baby and most of all, the not having to watch the clock and rush. Not to mention the freedom from closed shoes. Oh what a relief!

Sounds like I’m missing my vacation already? Just a little jittery about the new job. This is a whole new adventure for me and I want it to be great.

So, it’s time to get back in the swing…
